“[Cronenberg] is better than all of us combined.” - John Carpenter
“No one makes films like he does.” - Martin Scorsese

Max Renn, the slimy operator of a small television station, is on the hunt for a groundbreaking new programme to satisfy the hunger of his increasingly numbed out audience. He stumbles upon a pirate broadcast of a hyper-violent experiment: Videodrome. His search for its origins means a hallucinatory descent into a sinister world full of power and sex games, sadomasochism and conspiracies. As his mind gets twisted around, there are also disturbing physical transformations…
After the success of ‘Scanners’ (1981), brilliant Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg turned down directing ‘Return of the Jedi’(!) to plunge himself into a personal project previously titled ‘Network of Blood’. Like a malignant tumour, out of that grew the controversial cult classic ‘Videodrome’ (1983), a provocation of 1980s TV consumer culture and simultaneously a visionary work ahead of its time. Like no other Cronenberg mixes science fiction and body horror, a visceral subgenre he helped to birth. His techno-surreal world is brought to life by Rick Baker’s fleshy special effects, the hybrid of orchestral and synth music by his regular composer Howard Shore and fearless performances by James Woods and Debbie Harry (of the band Blondie). Long live this uncensored, restored version! Long live the new flesh!
