Sofia en haar moeder Rose brengen de zomer door in de Spaanse kustplaats Almería, waar Rose door de charmante sjamanistische dokter Gómez wordt behandeld voor de onverklaarbare lichamelijke klachten die haar aan een rolstoel kluisteren.

In de zwoele atmosfeer van dit zonovergoten stadje begint Sofia, die al haar hele leven onder het juk zit van de ziekte van haar moeder, eindelijk haar remmen los te laten als ze verleid wordt door de charmes van de raadselachtige, libertijnse Ingrid. Terwijl de temperatuur steeds hoger oploopt en Sofia sterker in haar schoenen begint te staan, wordt haar band met haar controlerende moeder steeds fragieler. Als de brandende zon ondergaat dreigt hun relatie, borrelend van opgekropte wrok en bitterheid, tot een dramatisch einde komen.

Sofia et sa mère Rose passent l’été dans la station balnéaire Almería. Pendant leur séjour sous les chaleurs torrides du soleil espagnol, Sofia est littéralement hypnotisée par le charme et l’attitude libertaire d’Ingrid. Alors que le mercure continue de monter et que Sofia reprend pied, sa relation avec sa mère se fragilise…

Rose and her daughter Sofia travel to the Spanish seaside town of Almería to consult with the shamanic Dr. Gómez, a physician who could possibly hold the cure to Rose’s mystery illness, which has left her bound to a wheelchair. But in the sultry atmosphere of this sun-bleached town Sofia, who has been trapped by her mother’s illness all her life, finally starts to shed her inhibitions, enticed by the persuasive charms of enigmatic traveler Ingrid. Sofia’s increased freedom becomes too much for her controlling mother, and as the hot sun beats down, their relationship simmers with pent-up resentments and bitterness, threatening to tear the fragile threads that hold them together, and leading them to a dramatic conclusion.
