De Acht Bergen is het verhaal van de vriendschap tussen Pietro en Bruno, een jongen uit de stad en één uit de bergen. Ze sluiten vriendschap als ze elf zijn, met een vergeten stukje Alpen als koninkrijk. De kinderen worden mannen, hun levens strekken zich uit. Ze verliezen elkaar en vinden elkaar terug. Terwijl Bruno trouw blijft aan zijn berg, zwerft Pietro door de wereld. Een tocht in liefde en eenzaamheid, langs afkomst en bestemming, over vriendschap, leven en dood heen.

Pietro est un garçon de la ville, Bruno est le dernier enfant à vivre dans un village oublié du Val d’Aoste. Ils se lient d’amitié dans ce coin caché des Alpes qui leur tient lieu de royaume. La vie les éloigne sans pouvoir les séparer complètement. Alors que Bruno reste fidèle à sa montagne, Pietro parcourt le monde. Cette traversée leur fera connaître l’amour et la perte, leurs origines et leurs destinées, mais surtout une amitié à la vie à la mort.

The Eight Mountains is the story of a friendship. Of children becoming men who try to erase the footprints of their fathers, but who, through the twists and turns they take, always end up returning home. Pietro is a boy from the city, Bruno is the last child of a forgotten mountain village. Over the years Bruno remains faithful to his mountain, while Pietro is the one who comes and goes. Their encounters introduce them to love and loss, reminding them of their origins, letting their destinies unfold, as Pietro and Bruno discover what it means to be true friends for life.
