Laura, een jonge pianostudente, overleeft wonder boven wonder ongedeerd het auto-ongeluk waarbij haar vriend om het leven komt. Ze wordt opgevangen door het gezin van Betty, die het ongeval zag gebeuren. Ze vindt er troost en steun om haar leven weer op de rails te krijgen, maar na verloop van tijd merkt ze dat er iets mis is met het gezin en begint ze aan hun bedoelingen te twijfelen.

Twee jaar na ‘Roter Himmel’ keert Christian Petzold terug met zijn 11de speelfilm, die zijn heel typische stijl bevestigt en zijn langdurige samenwerking met hoofdrolspeelster Paula Beer naar een hoger niveau tilt. Paula Beer won in 2020 de Zilveren Beer voor Beste Actrice voor ‘Undine’, Petzolds 9de film.

‘Miroirs No. 3’ werd geselecteerd in de Directors’ Fortnight op het afgelopen Festival van Cannes, waar hij enthousiast werd ontvangen door zowel critici als publiek.

Lors d’un week-end à la campagne, Laura, étudiante à Berlin, survit miraculeusement à un accident de voiture. Physiquement épargnée mais profondément secouée, elle est recueillie chez Betty, qui a été témoin de l’accident et s’occupe d’elle avec affection. Peu à peu, le mari et le fils de Betty surmontent leur réticence, et une quiétude quasi familiale s’installe. Mais bientôt, ils ne peuvent plus ignorer leur passé, et Laura doit affronter sa propre vie.

Deux ans après ‘Roter Himmel’, Christian Petzold revient avec son 11ème long métrage : un drame de 86’ dont la simplicité apparente renforce la sensation de mystère qui peu à peu contamine le récit. Petzold retrouve ici la grande Paula Beer, qui avait notamment reçu l’Ours d’argent de la meilleure actrice en 2020 pour ‘Ondine’.

Le film fut sélectionné à la Quinzaine des cinéastes lors du dernier Festival de Cannes, où il fut accueilli avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme par les critiques comme par le public.
